Immigration, Asylum and Human Rights
Asad Muneeb Gopayra is a Supervising Senior Immigration and Asylum Caseworker at Wimbledon Solicitors, based at our Tooting office. He has a substantial practice in complex immigration, asylum and human rights matters, and represents clients in both publicly and privately funded cases.
He advises clients from the earliest stage of a case, develops the legal and evidential strategy, prepares detailed representations to the Home Office, and progresses matters before the First-tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunal. His experience covers cases involving disputed credibility, risk on return, extensive documentary evidence, country expert evidence, and medical or psychological evidence.
Asad joined Wimbledon Solicitors in October 2024. Before that he practised immigration and asylum law at another London firm, and he brings four years of practice in Pakistan, where he was enrolled as an Advocate in 2017 and as an Advocate of the High Court in 2019.

Protection claims involving political opinion, religion, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, trafficking, torture, honour based violence and membership of a particular social group.
Human rights claims
Claims engaging Articles 3 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, including private life, family relationships, medical circumstances and the best interests of children.
Appeals and Upper Tribunal work
Appeals before the First-tier Tribunal and applications for permission to appeal to the Upper Tribunal, working closely with counsel and expert witnesses.
Detention, bail and deportation
Immigration bail applications, detention reviews, representations seeking release, and deportation and removal cases.
Modern slavery and trafficking
National Referral Mechanism referrals, reconsideration requests, and protection claims where trafficking or exploitation forms part of the fear of return.
Settlement and nationality
Leave to remain and settlement applications, British citizenship and nationality matters, family reunion and entry clearance, and applications by victims of domestic abuse.
Further submissions and fresh claims
Further submissions and fresh claims where new evidence or a change in country conditions affects an earlier refusal.
Asad's day to day work covers the full progress of a case, from the first interview through to an appeal.
Asad acts for clients whose ability to give evidence may be affected by trauma, disability or vulnerability. That includes survivors of torture and trafficking, victims of sexual or gender based violence, victims of domestic abuse, LGBTQ+ applicants, unaccompanied asylum seeking children and young people, and individuals affected by serious mental health conditions.
He approaches these cases with care and patience, while making sure the evidence is prepared thoroughly and the appropriate procedural safeguards are sought. He works with interpreters, witnesses, medical professionals, country experts and counsel, and has represented clients from a wide range of national, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.

Asad gives clear, practical and realistic advice. He makes sure clients understand the issues in their case, the evidence that will be needed, and the steps that follow.
He is known for meticulous preparation and a strategic approach, and for identifying the decisive issues in a case early. He combines that with a calm and client focused manner, which matters when someone is facing persecution, detention or separation from their family.

Your account, documents, country evidence and any expert or medical evidence are prepared with care, and you are told what each piece of evidence is for and how it will be used.
Asad progresses your matter with the Home Office and, where your case goes further, through the Tribunal, and explains what each decision means for you.
