About Mohtasim

Mohtasim is a Paralegal at Wimbledon Solicitors, working in immigration, asylum and human rights law. After reading law at the University of Exeter, Mohtasim completed the Bar Practice Course and Master of Laws at the University of Law before being called to the Bar by The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn in 2024. Mohtasim focuses on immigration, asylum and human rights appeals, preparing and managing cases before the First-tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunal from the first instruction through to determination.

Much of Mohtasim's work centres on protection and human rights claims, where careful evidence and clear drafting can make the difference to an appeal. Mohtasim works with both legal aid and private clients, and speaks English, Bengali, Hindi and Urdu, which allows many clients to talk through their case in a language they are comfortable with.

Mohtasim's career so far

Mohtasim's training and experience have been built across law, research and advocacy. These are some of the milestones along the way.

1. 2023

   Researcher, Democracy International / USAID

   Alongside completing the LLB, Mohtasim contributed to USAID's Promoting Peace and Justice Activity through Democracy International, conducting research into legal aid provision, access to justice and the delivery of legal services for vulnerable communities.

2. 2023

   Bachelor of Laws (LLB), University of Exeter

   Mohtasim graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the University of Exeter. Academic interests centred on public law and international humanitarian law, examining autonomous weapons systems, modern warfare and the developing legal issues preceding Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

3. 2024

   Master of Laws, Bar Practice Course and Call to the Bar

   Mohtasim completed the LLM and Bar Practice Course at the University of Law, Leeds, graduating with Merit in both. The LLM dissertation compared assisted dying laws in England and Wales, Germany and Switzerland, while the Bar Practice Course included a Distinction in Drafting and Advocacy. Mohtasim was called to the Bar by The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn.

4. 2025

   Barrister's Assistant

   Mohtasim assisted counsel on matters involving contract, employment, family, housing, trusts, immigration and public law, contributing to legal research, drafting and case preparation across a broad range of civil matters.

5. 2025

   County Court Advocate

   Mohtasim developed practical experience in civil litigation through regular appearances in County Court proceedings involving small claims, possession matters, return of goods claims and contested applications.

6. 2025

   Business Immigration

   Mohtasim expanded into business immigration, assisting employers with Sponsor Licence applications, Home Office compliance and civil penalty proceedings.

7. 2026

   Trainee Casework Assistant accreditation

   Mohtasim was accredited as a Trainee Casework Assistant under the Law Society Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme, reflecting a growing specialism in immigration and asylum casework.

8. Pro bono and research

   Contributing beyond casework

   Alongside this work, Mohtasim has contributed to pro bono and research projects with Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) and StopWatch, supporting work on clinical negligence and policing.
